May Ipsy Bag.

Hello everyone!

I actually canceled my Ipsy subscription for a few months now until I received an e-mail that totally reeled me in.  They were offering a free em eyeshadow palette with the May bag if I subscribed again but only for 48 hours!  I originally unsubscribed because even though it was matching me to what I originally put on my personality quiz, what I really wanted to get in my bags were brushes.  I know that a lot of people get at least one brush every bag and were getting tired of brushes.  Even when I changed my quiz every month and did the reviews, I was still not getting brushes.  So that’s why I originally unsubscribed.

I’ve always wanted to try out the em products ever since Michelle Phan launched her cosmetic lines but haven’t got a chance.

This month’s bag is really cute! I love that it opens up like an envelope.  So far all the bags I’ve received are closed with a zipper but this one has a button.  I’m looking forward to all the things in the bag this month!

Ipsy’s May 2016 Glam Bag

IT Cosmetics: No-Tug Waterproof Gel Eyeliner (Sample Size, Full Size $22.00) (5/5)
The first item I was excited to try was the gel eyeliner. I’ve been looking for a good eyeliner for the waterline.

Gel Eyeliner Swatch

The swatch in the picture above is even after I tried to rub it off with just my fingers and then again, with some water. It did not budge at all! I give it a 5/5! It totally exceeded my expectations!  According to the box packaging, the eyeliner will set in 30 seconds.  When I was cleaning my hands with a Lysol wet wipe, it came easily so I would assume that it’s easily removable with makeup remover.  I think that’s fine though because you won’t need to pull on your skin too much to remove it.

Em Cosmetics – Artistic Eye Color Palette – Shade Play: London Greys ($28) (3/5)

Em Cosmetics Artistic Eyeshadow Palette in London Grey

After the eyeliner, the eyeshadow palette was next on my list! I believe this is a full-size eyeshadow palette.  On the Em Cosmetics website, it’s priced at $28.  That’s already more than the cost of my bag!  Sadly, they don’t have a name for each of the color so I’ll just have to describe the colors.

All the colors are shimmery, but some are more than others.  The palette comes with a bright navy blue, a dark navy blue that’s almost black, a grey, a cream-white, a bronze, and a light-nude peach.  I found that the colors with more shimmer (cream white, bronze, dark navy) were easily pigmented.  I didn’t have to go through it with many swipes to get the nice color.  The other colors were pigmented also but took some time to build up.

This is the swatches shown from their website. It’s not as pigmented as this picture unless you really build up with a lot of product.

It also comes with two tiny brushes.  One of them is a double ended brush with an angled brush on one side and a fluffy brush on the other.  I find that the brushes would be way too small to use.

I do like the palette but I don’t like that it takes some time to build up.  Compared to Colourpop and Naked Palette, it’s not as creamy.  I do think that it’s a pretty good palette to take on the go and the colors are great for a smoky night time look.  I also love that there’s a big mirror on the compact.

The packaging itself is sleek and simple.  It’s an acrylic case. It opens magnetically. Some people don’t like it but I think it’s pretty cool.  It’s definitely not as cute as Too Faced palettes.

For this, I would rate 3/5.  It’s not bad and the price is decent.  There’s just better palettes out there. For example, Colourpop eyeshadows are cheaper and I find that quality and pigmentation is better.

Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics – Caribbean Sun Bronzer Duo: Aruba (Sample Size, Full size $24.95) (4/5)

I really liked the Bronzer Duo. This is in the color set, Aruba.  The right side in the picture below is the blush.  It’s a peachy color.  The left side is the bronzer.  I’ve only swatched it so far but I really love the quality of it.  It’s super blendable and really pigmented.  It’s also easily buildable.  The only complaint I have is that the compact is very ugly.  It just looks so cheap and boring, almost something out of the dollar tree.  The mirror is gives a plus though.  The packaging it came in is so much better looking.  I just wish more effort was put in to the compact than the packaging it came in.

I loved the how it looks, swatched.  The combination of the two would look perfect during summer for that nice peachy beach glow.  I have super fair, neutral skin tone so these colors really give me some color.  I don’t have any bronzers in my collection yet so I don’t know how it compares to others.  But from what I’m experiencing, I’m giving it a 4/5, less one star for ugly packaging.

Glamour Dolls: Blending Brush #10 Sperm Whale Edition ($3.99) (3/5)

Finallllyyy! My first brush from an Ipsy Bag! It’s a fluffy blending brush.  You can never get enough blending brushes! It’s soft and dense enough.  The whale design is pretty cute.  I haven’t tried it yet so I don’t know how well it picks up shadows.  Price-wise, Morphe brushes and even Wet N Wild brushes can be considered a bit better and cheaper, too.  So I gave it a mediocre rating.

Trissola: Chia Smoothing Hair Treatment Oil (Amazon $27.97?) (No rating)

I haven’t tried this product out yet but it does smell nice, not too strong.  Trissola‘s website doesn’t show the price on this item but on Amazon, it’s being sold for about $29 for 2 ounces (the link is in the title).  However, the Amazon one is spray while this one uses a medicine dropper.  I personally would prefer a spray bottle for more convenience.  Sorry guys, I don’t have a rating for this one yet.

Crazy Rumors: HibisKiss Natural Lip Color in Coral ($4.99) (3/5)

It is a colored lip balm, very similar to Baby Lips I previously reviewed about (Chapsticks Reviews).  It’s not as moisturizing but it does feel nice and gives your lips a slight bronzey tint.  I don’t really like the smell.  It smells like most natural organic cosmetics smell like, a bit plastic-like.  I do think that I would use it but for $5, I’m not sure if I purchase this, 3/5.

Well, that’s it for my review on this month’s bag.  What was your favorite item if you got one also?

February Ipsy Bag.

Hello! I’ve been receiving my Ipsy before the mid of the month and sometimes a by earlier.  I really like that the shipping has been pretty consistent.  When I saw the preview for the bag, it seemed kind of boring. Another nail polish, face exfoliator/scrub, and lip product.  It seemed a bit repetitive.  However, I definitely changed my mind when I received the bag and tried the products out.
Trust Fund – I’m Kind of a Big Deal (5/5)

It’s a beautiful rose pink.

I really love this nail polish color.  The brush picks up a bit too much product so I have to wipe it off a bit on the insides of the bottle.  It’s pretty thick too, so if you get a good amount on the brush, you’ll only need one coat.  I used only one coat on all the nails except the thumbnail which took two coats.  It’s a great color for spring!
Naked Cosmetics – Sierra Nevada

To be honest, I haven’t tested this out because I haven’t used a loose powder eyeshadow before so I don’t know how to apply use it.  It’s a very shimmery dark brown color.  It’s also too shimmery for my taste.
Best Face Forever – Exfoliating Daily Facewash (4/5)

This exfoliating face wash is supposed to be a more natural product: free from paraben, dyes, and sulfate.  It says it has peppermint, grapefruit oil, and aloe vera. It feels almost like sand when I apply it to my face.  It smells like peppermint and feels a bit minty on the face.  It’s a bit rough but it leaves my skin feeling really soft and not tight.  It’s also not drying either.  I really like this scrub but I took off one star for being so rough.  For people with sensitive skin, it could be too rough.
Vintage Sparkling Lipgloss – Pink Sequin (5/5)
I really like this lipgloss. It’s a shimmery pink.  It’s not too sticky like some lipgloss.  It gives a nice pink tint on natural lips.  I do have a bad habit of licking my lips a lot and eating my lipsticks so these didn’t last too long but they are easy to apply and retouch!

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil

I’ve also haven’t tried this out but it’s actually the one item I’m really excited about.  I just haven’t got a chance to try it.  I will definitely update once I do!

Keep following for more posts!

January Ipsy Bag.

The holidays are over sadly.. But it’s a new year! As always I keep telling myself I’ll work out after the New Years but I haven’t gotten myself to do that yet.  The typical New Year’s resolution that never comes true, we all know too well.
I’m really excited about this bag because as I keep reviewing and changing my personality quiz around, it’s getting better and better!

This month’s Ipsy bag is all about eyes! The cute bag is very durable and has an artsy design of a colorful girl wearing sunglasses.

Trestique Mini Matte Lip Crayon: Florence Fig (5/5)

I really like the color they gave me for this one. It’s a more natural color, kind of brownish pink.  I’ve gotten this lip crayon before and it’s always a great find.  It’s super pigmented and goes on creamy.  It will leave a bit of a pink stain after it rubs off.  Similar to other one that I’ve tried, they won’t last all day but probably a good 4 hours through light eating.  I don’t think this formula could last through many meals.

OFRA Eyebrow Pencil: Universal (3/5)

It’s an okay pencil. I prefer a bit more of a creamy texture.  The texture of this pencil is exactly as it looks, pencil like.  It does have good pigmentation and is a very brown color.  Some eyebrow pencils that come in brown are not that dark but this one could be a dark brown if you apply it a few times.  I prefer Asian brands of eyebrow pencils though.  It’s more tailored to my skin tone.

Mr. Write (Now) Eyeliner Pencil: Jac (5/5)

I absolutely love this pencil.  It’s creamy and super pigmented.  It has a bit of a glittery sparkle to it.  The color Jac is a dark bronze color.  The lasting power on this is awesome!  Pair this with the Formula X nail polish I got in the last bag, would’ve made a great Party look.  I think this would look great if used as an eyeshadow and blended out also. Many ways to use this.

City Color Eyeshadow Trio: Falling Leaves (4/5)

It comes in three colors, hence Trio.  The top color is a glittery bronze/copper color.  The left bottom is more of a peachy shimmer.  And the right third is a matte mauvish color. It’s really easy to apply and doesn’t come off chalky.  It’s also very pigmented.  However, the only Con I found was that it washes off really easily when I swatched it on my hand.  With just water, it came right off so I don’t know how it would last on a hot day during summer.  I do love the colors though.  It’s perfect for fall and winter.  It’s also more of natural shades so it can be used for everyday looks.

Promise Organic Ultra Moisturizing Argan Creme Facial Lotion with Olive Oil (4/5)

Between a cream and liquid consistency, it’s a bit closer to liquid but not so watery that it drips.  For something organic, it smells pretty good.  It smells like the usual Argan oil smell.  It’s very moisturizing.
Thanks for viewing!

Ipsy December Glam Bag.

Bag received December 15.

I received my bag really early this month! And I’m pretty interested in this bag.

The Power of Love in Nudie Red.  It’s a pinkish nude.  I really like the color but it smells like a crayon and kind of feels like a crayon too.  It doesn’t apply creamy but surprisingly the color is very pigmented and doesn’t look chalky. (3/5) The smell is a big turnoff but for the amount of lipstick they gave for a sample, I gave back some points.

Power of Love in Nudie Red.

Formula X in Revved Up is a really great color for the holidays.  It’s a gold shimmer color.  Just in time for New Years Parties!  I’ve heard great reviews about Formula X but the full price at Sephora is a bit on the expensive side so I’ve never tried it.  But now I have the chance! Thanks Ipsy! (5/5) It’s lasted very well so far but it’s only been one day.

Formula X in Revved Up.

Befine’s Exfoliating Mask feels very rough since it’s a brown sugar scrub.  It’s claims to be paraben free so that’s good!  I feel like it does work well, just really rough.  (4/5)

Clarke’s Botanicals can be used two ways, either as a mask or a moisturizer.  To use it as a mask, you apply a generous amount and leave it on for 15-20 minutes then rinse.  To use it as a moisturizer, you just apply it normally but sparingly.  As a moisturizer, it works pretty well.  Makes your skin feel soft and hydrated after those winter showers.  The smell reminds me of baby lotion but a bit more herb like. It’s not a bad smell to me though.  It’s creamy texture but very liquid-like.  Compared to my Ahava moisturizer, it’s not as thick.  I prefer Ahava for very dry skin compared to this and the full size for this costs about $60-$70 depending you get it from Amazon or Sephora. Ahava’s moisturizer is around $40.  It didn’t seem to keep my face moisturizer the next morning.  I had dry patches around my mouth this morning.  The Ahava one keeps me moisturizer much longer than just one winter night. (2/5) For such a high end product, it wasn’t very long lasting.

Clark’s Botanical Moisture Mask

The last item is the Concealer Brush by Beau Gâchis Paris.  It feels really nice and the bristles don’t fall off from just brushing it back and forth.  I think it’s also a pretty good size. (5/5) No complaints.

And the bag itself is really cute this month.  I like the pattern and the nice red color! Perfect timing for Christmas and a classy New Year!

The Ipsy card that came in the bag.

Ipsy December Glam Bag Preview.

I’m excited for the December Glam Bag from Ipsy!  Here’s the sneak peak of the bag that I’m going to get. I’m looking forward to the concealer brush and nail polish!  I was hoping to get brushes in the last bag.  The bag is also hot this month!
Did you guys view your sneak peak? What did you get?

November Ipsy Bag.

November Glam Bag

Finally! The long awaited review! Sorry for the delay, life’s just been busy lately.  I guess I’ll start from left to right.

Novex: Brazilian Keratin (2/5)

It’s one of the new products going around, hair food. It claims to “reinforce the structure of the hair, increasing shine and leaving hair healthy, manageable and soft to the touch” due to the keratin. I don’t find that it’s very effective. It does help to keep your hair soft but there’s a lot of better hair products out there. Not too excited about it. The competition is just better and about the same price.  The retail price for the full size goes for around $16.

Smashbox: Full Exposure Mascara (1/5)

I was really excited about this one but it was a huge disappointment. It really didn’t do much for my Asian stubborn lashes.  And it didn’t last long.  If you’re going for natural lashes this might be a good one for you.  I’m still searching for a mascara that will really make my lashes pop.  I have long lashes that refuse to stay curled for long.  The drugstore mascaras are much more effective than this.

Trestique: Mini Matte Lip Crayon (4/5)

I got it in the color Chili Red.  It’s very pigmented.  It’s a very vivid red. I think it would look really good on fair skin.  It applies very creamy.  It’s similar to the Bite lip crayons but not as matte.  Thus, not as drying. However, it does smear easily so a lip liner is a must.  I noticed that even though it fades off, it does leave a pink tint so that’s a plus.  If you plan on wearing it through meals, you will likely need to reapply a few times.  I do recommend this one.

Jelly Pong Pong: Liquid Gossamer (4/5)

It’s a very pigmented pink shimmer.  The directions suggest using on your cheekbones, brow bones, and down the middle of your nose.  It sounds like a highlighter but personally, I feel like it would look better as an eyeshadow than a highlighter since its so shimmery and pigmented.  It’s also pretty creamy.

INSPR Eyeshadow – Carnival (5/5)

This is also very pigmented.  I believe its almost like a bronze shimmer color.  Also, very creamy.  I really like this one.

Thanks for your patience and be sure to follow for more future reviews!

Ipsy: November Glam Bag.

I finally joined the popular subscription.  I even did the steps to skip the waitlist.  I was supposed to wait until the December for the first glam bag but I emailed the support team and they were able to hook me up. 10/10 for their superb customer service! I subscribed Nov 7th so that might’ve been a reason why.  I just saw the charge so the bag should be shipping out in mid-month as the representative told me.

Ipsy is a makeup glam bag that you subscribe to for $10 a month.  You can cancel anytime and it’s really cheap for the makeup products that you get.  You get 5 items each month that equals up to almost $50 in value.  That’s a pretty good deal. For someone whose starting out with makeup, this is a good way to try out different brands and products.  For someone whose pretty advanced, this might not work out too well since it’s still quite random despite being personalized through a style test.

A lot of criticism I hear about the Ipsy bags is mostly that people keep getting items that they voted they do not want in their bag.  They even emailed the support team about this.  However, I think that’s more of a personal dislike than a problem with the company.  The idea of an Ipsy bag is try  various items ranging from drugstore to high end products for a inexpensive price.  So of course they want you to try things you THINK you might not like.  You don’t know until you try, right?

That’s why for advanced users, they tend to already know what products they need and want.  They also know what works and what doesn’t work already. So adventuring wouldn’t be such a good idea.

However, for beginners this is really great! You get all sorts of items and when you start to understand what products you need, you cancel.

Keep on the lookout for an update on the Ipsy bag!
